WHAT IS A COMMERCIAL LAUNDROMAT?

In South Africa there are two different types of laundry services that are geared toward two different kinds of customers. We explain below:

LAUNDROMAT

Laundromats come in two variations; the self-service type where you slot in a coin to make the washing machine or tumble dryer work, and the nicknamed “fluff-and-fold” type laundromats that also have a row of standard washing machines.

These often offer a service to wash, dry and iron your dirty clothing and linen for you. Laundromats tend to use domestic-use washing machines and dryers that we would have in our homes.

COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY

Commercial laundry services make use of industrial-sized washing machines, dryers and pressers that are designed to wash large bulks of fabrics at a time - like linens, bedding and towels. Commercial laundry suppliers generally work for corporates or big businesses in hospitality, medical and beauty who require large-scale laundry services.

Both sets of laundry types do more than the average one load of washing per day and do require an excellent commercial product to manage the large loads of laundry.

HOW DO COMMERCIAL WASHERS WORK?

When it comes to commercial laundry companies, more specifically to the industrial-sized machinery they work with, regular maintenance is key to the constant working of their machines.

Commercial washers work on exactly the same mechanical principle that domestic machines do, but on a much larger and more intense scale. Like a car or any other big piece of machinery, regular maintenance is required to keep the machines in good working order.

Depending on the manufacturing requirements, commercial laundries should have their machines regularly maintained once or twice a year by a reputable maintenance company, or by the manufacturer itself. Using a commercial machine in the correct way, with the correct powders and conditioners, is also key.
